New Director of Tourism (Designate) for St Helena
Enterprise St Helena is pleased to announce that Helena Bennett has been appointed as Director of Tourism (Designate).
Helena joined Enterprise St Helena in 2014 as Tourism Office Manager, where she has gained a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge in the tourism industry. With a background in strategic and financial management, Helena will be an asset to the tourism industry whilst she continues professional development to provide the best possible support to tourism.
Helena will assume responsibility for the development and promotion of a sustainable tourism industry for St Helena and she joins the team of Saints taking on key roles for St Helena.
Helena commented “I am excited and overwhelmed to be successful for the post. Tourism is not a job to me but a passion, and I am committed to helping St Helena’s tourism industry develop sustainably that benefits not only the tourism sector and investors, but also the community. I am confident with the great team here in the Tourist Office and Enterprise St Helena we will help drive tourism for St Helena.”
Chief Executive for Economic Development, Dr Niall O’Keeffe commented “It is particularly pleasing that we can announce the appointment of a Saint Helenian to the top post in Tourism on World Tourism Day. It’s a very challenging role with a steep learning curve ahead but we believe Helena is the right person for the job and will receive the support of the community and the industry as a whole.”
The Chair for Enterprise St Helena Board, Mr Lawson Henry, also commented “Having a Saint Helenian take up this key post is sending a strong message to Saints all over the world that if you have the skills and have worked hard the opportunities are here on St Helena. This key appointment also fits into the Government’s commitment to succession planning.
