Good news story on the Jamestown Market
Enterprise St Helena is pleased to announce that a program of refurbishment will commence on the Jamestown Market following a stakeholder review and appropriate planning approval.
Until its refurbishment in 1990, the Jamestown Market was used for its original purpose – an open air communal market structure.
ESH is proposing to create a vibrant indoor market to improve the trading position for the existing retailers and attract new businesses into the market. Apart from the existing producers, the market could offer a wider variety of traders such as bakery & confectionery; arts & crafts; cards, gifts and books; clothing, footwear and leather goods; delicatessen and health foods; electrical, tools and spares; plants & flowers; home & fabrics; jewellery, cosmetics and fragrances; place to eat etc.
ESH is meeting with the existing traders and consultations are beginning with key stakeholders such as St Helena Heritage Society, the National Trust and St Helena Government planning department. Our intention is to submit a planning application before christmas and commence refurbishment and repair works around April 2015.
We would hope to have the refurbishment works completed by July 2015.
